Hi, my name is Mari Nakano and I am a Graduate student in the Media Design Program (MDP) here at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. I was born and raised in San Francisco, CA and moved down to Los Angeles to attend UCLA from 1998-2002. I received my bachelors in Asian American Studies and minored in Political Science. After graduation, I stayed down here to work, play, help out in the community, and think about what I really wanted to do with my life. Law school? Homeopathic medicine? Traveling? Culinary School? Ahhh, but alas! DESIGN! Yes, that’s it. Design.
So, I went to Santa Monica College for nearly 2 years thinking I was just going to get a certificate in graphic design and go get me a J.O.B.! But quickly I learned that graphic design was like this forbidden fruit that I couldn’t resist. I needed more! So, I applied to Art Center and was accepted as an undergraduate Graphic Design major. I did three terms as an undergraduate, but, sigh, spoiled ol’ me still couldn’t get enough so I applied for the MDP and look where I’m at now. Before I knew it, I woke up one morning and found myself here. And now that I’ve been here for a short bit, I’ve come to love the tortuous ways of the MDP. You’re a masochist if you come here, and I mean that in the most sincere and endearing way. So, anyways, hello. This is my blog of some of the “everydays” as an MDP. You can also go directly to my personal site if you want to learn more about the courses I’ve taken. If you have any questions about my studies or the MDP, please feel free to ask here or contact me at nakano@inside.artcenter.edu.
You’re awesome. Have a great day.
